What is the Self Slot Booking Facility?

The SSC has introduced a self-slot selection (also called “self-slot booking”) option for its exam candidates. Instead of waiting for the exam centre, date and shift to be allotted automatically, candidates now get the choice of exam city, date and shift within a specified window. 

Why This Matters

  • It gives flexibility to candidates: you can pick a date and shift that aligns with your preparation, travel plans or preferred time slot. 

  • It reflects an effort by SSC to become more candidate-friendly and transparent in scheduling. Not using this facility (or missing the window) may mean you lose the chance to pick your choice and may be allotted whatever remains. 

Important Dates & Details for 2025 (Example: CHSL)

For the SSC CHSL 2025 Tier‑1 exam, here are key details:

  • Self slot selection window: 22nd October 2025 to 28th October 2025. 

  • Exam start date: 12th November 2025 onwards.After the selection window closes, final “City Intimation Slip” will be issued showing date, shift, city. Once you submit your choice of city, date & shift, no changes will be allowed. )

Step-by-Step Guide to Slot Booking

Here’s how a candidate should proceed:

  1. Visit the official SSC website: https://ssc.gov.in (official portal)   (Staff Selection Commission)

  2. Click on the “Candidate Login” section and log in using your registration number / password. 

  3. After logging in, look for the link labelled something like “Select City, Date & Shift – Self Slot Selection”.

  4. You will see the list of three cities you had chosen at the time of application (for example for CHSL) and the available dates and shifts for each. 

  5. Choose one city (from your list), then choose a date and shift (as available). Consider your travel, lodging, preparation time.

  6. Submit your choice—there may be validation (e.g., OTP) and once you finalize you cannot change it later. 

  7. After the window closes, download your city-intimation slip and then your admit card, which will show the final confirmed exam details.
